Jerry Joseph, CEO and Co-Founder
Mr. Joseph is an experienced biomedical engineer with over 6 years of experience in R&D and Manufacturing in the medical device industry. He worked for Bayer Diagnostics and Insulet Corporation at those capacities. In addition, Mr. Joseph is an experienced Patent Attorney with over 11 years working at Intellectual Property law firms, writing and defending patents for a variety of products in the biomedical industry. He is a major contributor in the Genesis artificial pancreas design.
Guilherme de Paula, CTO and Founder
Mr. de Paula invented the Genesis modular artificial pancreas design in 2008 and founded Pancreum in 2011. Mr. de Paula is a recognized engineer with specializations in software and electronics. Mr. de Paula has over 30 years of industry experience, 17 in the medical device industry, including with Medtronic Diabetes and Insulet. Mr. de Paula was awarded Bluetooth SIG Innovator of the Year in 2011 for his innovative CoreMD - Genesis artificial pancreas.
Steve DiIanni, Director of Mechanical Engineering
Mr. DiIanni has 30 years of experience designing innovative medical devices, including with Baxter Healthcare, Thoratec and Insulet. As one of the earliest engineers at Insulet, Mr. DiIanni lead the team that took the pod design through to an FDA-cleared and mass-produced product, sold worldwide. Mr. DiIanni had conceptualized and lead the design of the nitinol pump drive system within Insulet's highly successful OmniPod.
Joe Geringer, Lead Product Development Engineer
Mr. Geringer is an internationally recognized product developer and industrial designer, with over 25 years of experience in product development in established companies, including Design Continuum, iRobot, EyeNetra, Atrium Medical, Brookstone and EMD Millipore. Mr. Geringer is also the recipient of numerous design awards including with IDEA, Red Dot, and Catalyst.
Peg Abernathy, Director of Clinical Assessment & Product Definition
Ms. Abernathy is a 23-year diabetes corporate veteran and medical device specialist who has held executive management positions with Bayer Healthcare Diabetes Care, Tandem Diabetes Care, Insulet Corp., Roche Diagnostics, and Novo Nordisk. She is a diabetes columnist on the Huffington Post and a business development advisor. In 2016, she was appointed Chairwoman for the American Diabetes Association Los Angeles Advocacy Committee.
Dr. Uri Lopatin M.D., Lead Scientific Advisor
Dr. Lopatin is a well recognized and published physician, scientist, mentor and entrepreneur. He is an accomplished Cornell and NYU graduate in science & medicine with over 15 experience in research and in the biosciences & pharmaceutical industry, including with NIH, Merck, Roche, and Gilead. More recently he co-founded Assembly Biosciences, where he serves as their Chief Medical Officer and Vice-President of Research & Development.
